Part of the smart grid - four-wheel mobile power plants:

Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) describes a system in which plug-in electric vehicles, such as electric cars (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), communicate with the power grid to sell demand response services by either returning electricity to the grid or by regulating their charging rate.

+ lowers a consumer’s electricity bill
+ electricity generated during the night, when demand is low
+ balancing electricity to the grid during daytime, when demand is highest
+ back-up power source in case of power outages and/or shortages

A smart grid is an electrical grid which includes a variety of operational and energy measures including smart meters, smart appliances, renewable energy resources, and energy efficiency resources.

+ improve reliability, resiliency, flexibility, and efficiency (both economic and energy) of the electric delivery system

Enel an Italian multinational, teamed up with Nissan to develop an innovative system that allows car owners and energy consumers to use their vehicles as real “four-wheel mobile plants”, to store and feed back into the grid the energy that has not been used.
