The gigantic city project called NEOM:

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced the launch of NEOM, a project that aspires to be the “safest, most efficient, most future oriented, and best place to live and work” in the kingdom.

NEOM is born from the ambition of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 to see the country develop into a pioneering and thriving model of excellence in various and important areas of life.

Location + size

+ Three countries, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Egypt
+ Next to the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba
+ Near maritime trade routes that use the Suez Canal
+ 26,500 square km (10,230 square mile)

Industries

+ Energy and water, biotechnology, food, advanced manufacturing and entertainment
+ Repetitive tasks are being outsourced to robots or fully automated
+ Powered entirely by wind and solar energy

Investors + Investment

+ The Saudi government, the kingdom’s Public Investment Fund, local and international Investors
+ More than half a trillion dollars

Management

+ Klaus Kleinfeld, a former chief executive of Siemens AG and Alcoa Inc, to run the project

Timing

+ By 2025 first phase should be completed
