A new class of small autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV) that can swarm out to study underwater environments:

Hydromea is developing innovative technology to make water quality measurements available at an unprecedented resolution, and much faster than traditional methods.

+ less prone to getting jammed by seaweed, fishing lines, or other floating obstacles
+ agile, able to advance in all directions
+ can automatically measure many locations simultaneously by using a swarm of vehicles
+ can cover volumes of several square kilometers
+ up to 300 meters depth
+ can be fitted with several commercial sensors
+ creating rich 3D data sets
+ precise in-situation measurements

Founded in December 2014, Hydromea SA., is a new start-up from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland, with the goal to bring the latest advanced technology from microengineering and robotics to the environmental market. The Hydromea technology is the result of over 10 years of experience gained through research of the founders in underwater communication, localization, propulsion and distributed systems.
