Freedom from daily insulin injections

Diabetes is a worldwide pandemic affecting about 347 million people, according to the World Health Organization. One of the biggest problems in regulating a patient’s blood sugar levels. Insulin must be administered a multiple time throughout the day.

For most people:
< requires injecting insulin themselves
< some find it difficult or painful
< do not always keep up with their treatment
< can lead to big fluctuations in blood sugar levels

The Swiss company CeQur has developed the PaQ for people with type 2 diabetes, a wearable device that automatically delivers insulin through a process called “continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion” (CSII).

Two components
+ reservoir that contains insulin for three days
+ messenger unit

Messenger section
+ adhesive pad that sticks to the patient’s skin
+ can be worn during sleep, eat, exercise, bathe, shower, swim (depth up to 6 ft. – 1.8 m)
+ button that the patient can press to administer a bolus dose (mealtime)
+ notification when to replace device and time of use

CeQur has completed clinical studies evaluating PAQ among people with type 2 diabetes with positive results. The company has advanced the technology to a commercial product obtaining a CE mark.
